How safe is travel throughout the country? I know the border with Colombia isn’t the best. But other than that common sense like any area in the states will do?

I’m flying in there.

Things we did 28 years ago when I was in Quito:

- Drive the hour or so to the Ecuator
- Drive to the town of Banos (3 hours roughly) and spend a day or two there, lots of things to do, including hot springs
- Drive to Cotopaxi volcano and hike to lodge at 15,700 feet (you can drive most of the way, was an hour hike to the lodge)

Sweet! Yea. I want to rent a motorcycle and visit small towns. Not sure if my friend will be with me there. I think I’m going to meet her in Peru or Venezuela then end up in Colombia and see her place.

I’m starting Spanish classes for the basics Tuesday. I have 2 months to cram in as much as I can.

But no. I will still have my apartment in the city unless I I like it. Then I’ll sublease it until the my lease is up. I had to sign another year because rates were gonna be crazy at month to month with market rate.

It's kinda cool to be able to travel like you are though. Shame the rent $ basically goes down the drain while you are out and about though.

When I'm semi-retired (hopefully soon) I'd like to be traveling a good 3 months out of the year like this. We own a home so perhaps will will AirBnB it out or something while we travel.

The one thing I remember distinctly is that the drivers are maniacs. Traffic laws are only suggestions. Driving to Banos on narrow mountain roads, we'd have people come flying down the mountain in your lane headed straight at you, daring you not to swerve.

Yea. It sucks. But I don’t want to lose my place. I love it. Want to feel this nomad thing out for a couple months. If I like it I’ll sublease or just have to eat the rent.

Yea. That’s what I’ve watched and heard. Be easier to dodge them on a motorcycle. Haha
